The leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council has said the borough is experiencing an “extraordinary” rise in new covid-19 cases.
Addressing a full council meeting, Councillor Mary Lanigan described seeing maps which were showing “bright red” across the area.
She also suggested the programme to deliver booster vaccines to vulnerable groups was not as extensive as it should be and it was a “bit of a worry” that a lot of people in these categories were still waiting to be jabbed.
Coronavirus tracking data, based on information provided by Public Health England and the Office for National Statistics, show that there were 101 new cases reported in Redcar and Cleveland on Wednesday.
A total of 716 cases were diagnosed in the last seven days, equating to an infection rate of 522.1 per 100,000 population.
