Police have now launched a murder investigation after a man who suffered serious injuries in an incident in Middlesbrough sadly passed away in hospital.

The 37-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were cycling along Homerton Road/Gribdale Road around 9.05pm on Saturday, when a white Vauxhall Insignia collided with them, in what detectives have described as a deliberate and targeted act.

The man suffered serious head injuries and passed away at James Cook University Hospital this morning. His family are now being supported by specially trained officers.

The 24-year-old woman suffered less serious injuries in the incident.

The white Vauxhall Insignia was later found nearby; abandoned with severe fire damage.

Detectives have appealed to anyone who may have seen the incident or anyone who may have seen a white Vauxhall Insignia travelling along Stainton Way in Hemlington, at approximately 4:50pm on Sunday to get in touch.

Three men arrested in connection with the incident have been released on police bail, whilst enquiries continue.

Police are reminding householders to stay vigilant after a number of reports of garage break-in's in the Redcar area.

Officers have received five reports of break-ins to garages and sheds in the Wheatlands, Dormanstown, West Dyke and Kirkleatham areas of Redcar in the last week.

Outbuildings often hold a variety of items of value which could entice a thief to try to break in, such as tools, bicycles and other equipment.

Officers are urging members of the public to stay vigilant, and follow crime prevention advice.

Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked in an incident in Ormesby.

The incident happened around 6pm on Wednesday 7th July, on St Cuthberts Court in Ormesby, when a 34-year-old man suffered a broken shin, a laceration to his head and severe facial injuries when he was attacked by two men with metal batons.

Officers arrested two men in connection with the incident, but they have now been released with no further action.

A third man was interviewed voluntarily.

The incident is believed to have been filmed on a mobile phone.

Anyone with information should contact Middlesbrough CID on the non-emergency number 101.
