The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has a group of inspiring runners taking part in the BUPA Great North Run on Sunday 7 September and is looking for volunteers to come and help cheer their runners on.

The charity that saves lives at sea is calling all outgoing and enthusiastic people to join their Volunteer Cheering Team.

The exciting role will involve spotting RNLI runners and giving them a ‘huge cheer’ to motivate them along the route between Newcastle and South Shields towards the finishing line.

Heather Malkin, RNLI Volunteering Adviser North, explained "It’s always a fantastic day out - if you haven’t seen the BUPA Great North Run live, now is your chance to soak up the atmosphere and help the RNLI at the same time.

"On the day you will meet like-minded volunteers and you will be kitted out with an RNLI tabard, cheering materials and information to support all our charity’s runners."

Heather added "You don’t need to have any prior knowledge or involvement with the RNLI, just a willingness to help us ensure our runners receive the support they deserve. You’ll also get a buzz through helping to raise funds and awareness for the RNLI at a world renowned sporting event."
