Six men have been arrested after an incident which caused a local school to be placed into lockdown yesterday morning;

A busy bypass road was closed in East Cleveland after a crash which left a driver in hospital;

...and Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a car and an off-road bike.

 

Six men have been arrested after an incident which caused a local school to be placed into lockdown yesterday morning.

Police were called to to Berwick Hills Primary School at around 8:40am following reports that a number of men were fighting with weapons.

The incident spilled into the school grounds and the school had to take safety precautions.

Armed officers attended the scene and a number of men were located in possession of sharp objects.

A male member of the public who assisted police in detaining the males suffered minor injuries.

The incident near to the school is believed to be linked to an earlier incident two hours earlier, where an aggravated burglary is reported to have taken place at a property on Ellerby Green.

Four men attended the address and threatened the occupants with a weapon, before stealing a Vauxhall Insignia and a motorbike.

A total of six arrests have now been made in connection with the incidents.

 

A busy bypass road was closed in East Cleveland after a crash which left a driver in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Saltburn Lane in Skelton, at 6.20am on Thursday.

The eastbound carriageway of the A174 was shut between the A173 Marske Lane at the Skelton Castle roundabout and the Saltburn Lane roundabout due to the crash, which involved an Audi RS6 car.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, suffered suspected chest and neck injuries and was taken to Middlesbrough's James Cook Hospital for treatment.

 

Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a car and an off-road bike.

The incident happened around 8pm on Thursday, and involved a blue Seat Leon and an off-road bike, at the junction of Skelton Road and Willow Drive in Brotton.

The 39-year-old male driver of the off-road bike suffered multiple leg injuries, and his 18-year-old male pillion passenger also suffered a leg injury.

Both were taken to James Cook University Hospital, where the driver remains whilst receiving treatment.
