The number of coronavirus cases on Teesside have increased by 273 in the past 24 hours, according to new figures.

Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Cleveland and Hartlepool have all recorded new cases.

The highest increase has been in Stockton, where 81 people have contracted the virus.

Data, released by Public Health England, shows another 73 cases of Covid-19 in Middlesbrough.

There have been another 54 positive tests in Redcar and Cleveland.

The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were called into action in our area yesterday.

Just before 2am yesterday morning the team were contacted by North Yorkshire Police to go to the aid of two people making an essential journey in a car that had become stuck in snow on a hilly section of road near to Castleton.

Conditions in the area were very treacherous under foot and new drifts had blocked some roads again.

Upon arrival the two people were found to be cold but otherwise okay.

Their vehicle was recovered to a level section of road and they were then escorted to a main road to continue their journey.

It's been confirmed that Dunsdale Recycling Centre is to remain open during the current lockdown.
