Residents of Redcar and Cleveland are being urged to be extra careful this weekend to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the area and protect the lives of vulnerable people who could be at risk.

Redcar and Cleveland is still seeing new cases coming in every day and the area is starting to see more vulnerable people testing positive for the virus.

The new rule of six guidance, which comes into effect on Monday, will mean that you must not meet with people from other households socially in groups of more than six. This will apply indoors and outdoors, including in private homes.

Covid-19 secure venues, such as restaurants and places of worship, can still host larger numbers in total but groups of up to six must not mix or form larger groups.

Education and work settings are unaffected, and organised team sports will still be able to proceed, as will weddings and funerals up to 30.

A local school has had to send home a whole year group after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

Outwood Academy in Redcar put out a Facebook post alerting parents yesterday morning.

It said the measure was being taken as a precaution and that only Year 9s were affected.

Parents were asked to collect their children from the school.

All students in year 9 have been told to self isolate until 23 September, returning to school on 24 September.
