Cleveland Fire Brigade is currently recruiting retained (part-time) firefighters at stations in Skelton, Saltburn, Guisborough and Loftus, as well as Hartlepool Headland and Yarm.

Retained firefighters are members of the community who are paid to provide an on-call service responding to emergency calls in the same way as full-time firefighters, using the same appliances and equipment, but who are ‘on call’ rather than located at a fire station.

Applicants must meet a number of criteria. This includes living within five minutes of one of the stations listed above and being able to respond and report to the station within that time, being at least 18 years old and having a good all round level of fitness.

Chief Fire Officer Ian Hayton said: “We are looking for dedicated and committed people to help us provide modern fire and rescue services within the local community.

"Retained firefighters are already an important part of our service and can come from any background – for example, they might be a parent who needs flexible working hours, someone with some spare time or who is unemployed.

"The new recruits will be given comprehensive training and they will be joining our professional team at a time of important change for the Brigade. As well as recruiting for our six retained fire stations, we are also still looking for applicants who live within 5 minutes of Stockton Fire Station."

The recruitment lines will open at 8am on Thursday 21st August and close at 5pm on Tuesday 26th August.
