Emergency services were called to attend a large fire in our area yesterday lunchtime.

Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade attended the fire at the Redcar Bulk Teminal, next door to the SSI Tata Steel site on the Trunk Road in Redcar.

Two electrical substations were alight on the site.

Five pumping appliances, an incident command unit and a supporting appliance were called to the site.

Large plumes of smoke were visible in the area.

However it is not believed that there have been any injuries, with all site personnel accounted for.

The Redcar Coastguard had a busy day in our area yesterday.

Just after 1pm yesterday, the Redcar team were tasked to reports of two swimmers possibly in difficulty near the Boat Park in Marske.

When the team met up with the first informant he identified the swimmers who by then were out of the water.

Safety advice was given.

When the team was returning to the vehicle another call came in reporting a child who had lost his parents was found near the Claxton Hotel in Redcar.

After gathering information from the first informant and the child two team members went on the beach in the vehicle and managed to locate the child's parents.

The remaining team members escorted the child across the beach to reunite him with his family.

Members of the public are reminded that if you see anyone in trouble on the beach or cliffs you should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

More libraries in Redcar and Cleveland are opening their doors once again following their closure due to Covid-19.

The libraries in Grangetown, Marske, Ormesby and Skelton will open on Monday, with new health and safety measures in place at each of the buildings.

They join Redcar, Guisborough, South Bank and Loftus which opened in July.

These libraries will also be extending their opening hours from 10am until 4pm.

The re-opened facilities will be adding a Select and Collect service for users.
