A man who suffered serious head injuries following an alleged assault in Middlesbrough at the weekend has now sadly died in hospital.

The incident is believed to have happened on Albert Road between midnight and 1am on Saturday morning.

The 39-year-old man was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where he sadly passed away on Monday afternoon.

Specially trained officers are supporting the man’s family.

Police are again appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage within the area of Albert Road in the early hours of Saturday.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with section 20 assault and he was due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Monday.

The volunteers of the Redcar RNLI have been called into action in our area.

Just after 8pm on Monday the crew were tasked to assist following reports of a dog in difficulties in the River Tees.

However the dog managed to get to safety unaided and the launch was cancelled.

The former Redcar steelworks site is being re-branded as ‘Teesworks’ in a bid to showcase it to investors all over the world.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen also said a new entrance would be built before the end of the year as he outlined a plan to create almost 400 jobs over the next 12 months.

Mr Houchen said a number of new contracts would go out for tender in the coming weeks to carry out 19 separate demolition projects as work continues to develop the site.

Eventually 775 jobs could be created as a result of planned investments worth £393m.
