A teenager has been charged after a serious assault left a man in his 30s with significant injuries.

The serious attack was reported in central Middlesbrough in the early hours of Saturday in the Albert Road area, near to the junction with Corporation Road.

The victim remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Now, 19-year-old Christopher Edminson of Valley Road in Grove Hill has been charged with a section 20 assault, and was due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened between midnight and 1am on Saturday, is asked to call police on the non-emergency number 101.

The Redcar Coastguard team have been called into action in our area.

Just before ten past seven on Sunday evening the team were tasked by the Humber operations room at Bridlington to reports of a canoe not making progress a few miles off Saltburn Pier.

The team assessed the situation and a search was conducted.

It turned out the object spotted was a lobster pot marker and the search was called off.

The public are reminded that if you see anyone in trouble on the beach or cliffs you should DIAL 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Three of the area’s most at-risk areas for theft-related crime are to receive a major overhaul in crime prevention measures, including alley gates, increased CCTV and street lighting.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner has secured just over £1million from the Home Office’s Safer Streets Fund, which aims to prevent crimes like theft, robbery and burglary.

The project will target areas selected due to their disproportionality high levels of crime, including South Bank here in Redcar and Cleveland.

The two other areas are the Newport area of Middlesbrough, and Hartlepool’s Burn Valley.

A range of measures will be implemented to protect communities from crime, including enhanced CCTV coverage, alley gate improvement schemes, metal shutters and improved lighting.
