A coronavirus mobile testing centre is opening in our area today.

Today and tomorrow the mobile testing centre will be located in the car park close to the Kirkleatham Walled Garden, near Redcar.

The testing sites are moved around the area on demand, and have previously been on offer at Redcar Racecourse, Teesside Park and in Stockton town centre.

The sites will be open between 10.30am and 3.30pm on both days

In addition, there is also a permanent testing unit at the empty Sainsbury’s supermarket at Middlehaven, just off the A66 in Middlesbrough, which runs each day between 8am and 8pm.

Police have seized a BMW vehicle and arrested a man on suspicion of motoring and drugs offences.

On Saturday officers from the Dog Unit pulled over the BMW in Nunthorpe.

CS spray, over £1,000 in cash and suspected cannabis was recovered from the vehicle which was also seized.

The male driver of the vehicle aged 30 was arrested on suspicion of a number motoring and drugs offences.

He has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

It's been announced that a phased re-opening of libraries in Redcar and Cleveland will begin later this month.

The libraries in Redcar, Guisborough, South Bank and Loftus will open their doors once again on July 20, with new health and safety measures in place at each of the buildings.

Plans are also being developed for other libraries in the borough.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, a reduced low-contact service has been offered to library users.

This has included use of Borrowbox – a digital service allowing users to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks – and a book delivery service for vulnerable users who have been housebound or shielding.

Now, the re-opened facilities will add a Select and Collect service for users.
