Cleveland Mountain Rescue team were twice called into action at Roseberry Topping over the weekend.

Yorkshire Ambulance Control contacted the organisation at 1.15pm on Friday 15th August to ask for help with a lady who had possibly had a stroke.

Commenting via the organisations website, a CMRT spokesperson said "We quickly located the lady and as the carry off would have been quite long we contacted the RAF who fortunately had a Sea King practising nearby. The Sea King arrived within 15 minutes and winched the lady from Roseberry into the aircraft. She was then flown to James Cook. Another brilliant job from the RAF. There were 14 of us on this Incident, which lasted a couple of hours."

The following day, Saturday 16th August, Cleveland Police contacted the organisation at 2pm to ask for assistance with a young boy walking up Roseberry Topping with his father who had become stuck on some very slippery steep shale.

"His father did not want to make matters worse by attempting a rescue himself and running the risk of getting himself stuck, so sensibly rang the Police for help. With a bit of technological wizardry we got a grid reference for the couple, rang them to assure them that help was on the way, and mobilised.

"Soon we located the couple and made the young lad safe. He was then roped up and pulled up the shale slope to safety, Both were uninjured and we escorted them down to the car park at Newton. There were 12 of us involved in this incident which lasted just over an hour."
