Two men have appeared in court after a woman was awoken by burglars at the weekend.

The woman, in her 40s, was awoken in the early hours of Saturday morning to find her dog chasing two burglars from her home in Saltburn.

The offence happened at around 4am at a house on Princes Road in the town.

Two men accused of the offence have since been charged with burglary and theft and appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Police are now appealing to trace stolen items.

A burglar who scaled a fence to break in to a Teesside cricket club through the ladies loo window has been sent to prison.

44 year old John Wilson stole a bottle of alcohol from Redcar Cricket Club on the town's Kirkleatham Street on Sunday.

He also smashed a vending machine full of sweets.

Appearing at Teesside Magistrates Court yesterday, Wilson, from Ninth Street, Blackhall, near Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to burglary.

He was remanded in custody for the offence for four months - but a suspended sentence for other offences meant he was jailed for a total of 16 months.

Police are appealing a group of people who were victims of racial abuse to come forward following an incident in Middlesbrough.

A member of the public reported the incident to police last Tuesday after a group of people were victim to racial abuse from a man in an orange vehicle on Outram Street at around 1:30pm.

Police are appealing for the victims and any potential witnesses to come forward as they may be able to assist officers with enquiries.

Please contact police on the non-emergency 101 number, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
