A man and a woman have appeared in court charged with robbery following an incident at a local hotel.

Officers from Middlesbrough CID charged the man and woman with robbery in connection with a reported incident at the Ash Tree Hotel on The Crescent in Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

A man aged 38 and woman aged 39 appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court yesterday.

A warning has been issued to residents by police after a spate of home burglaries across the area.

Cleveland Police chiefs say that across Redcar and Cleveland, and other parts of Teesside there were 12 burglaries over a 24 hours period last weekend.

Police are now calling on residents to stay aware and report any incidents or information linked to the crimes they may have.

Officers also advised residents they could consider installing motion detection lights and CCTV with a clear view of any entry points.

Anyone with information of any crime is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.

The largest containership ever to visit Teesport has successfully docked.

The Adelheid-S arrived on Tuesday, and is 222.5 metres long, 32.2m wide and can handle 3,400 20-foot containers.

The ship was spectacular sight as it approached Teesport on Tuesday evening, arriving after an 18-hour sailing from Antwerp, Belgium.

Teesport's three dock-side cranes unloaded 852 containers before the Adelheid-S departed on Wednesday morning for its return sailing to Antwerp.
