The total number of reported Coronavirus cases in our area has once again shown a slight increase in the past 24 hours, according to official figures.

According to the latest figures published yesterday by Public Health England, there have now been 372 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Redcar and Cleveland, out of a local population of just under 137,000 people.

That compares to 368 cases yesterday.

There are currently 628 cases confirmed in Middlesbrough, that's another small increase, up from 626 cases yesterday.

A young man from our area who died in a car crash on scenic North Yorkshire road has been named.

21-year-old Shane Finn, from Grangetown, was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by air ambulance following the crash, which occurred at around 1pm on Saturday May 2nd.

Sadly he later died as a result of his injuries.

Mr Finn was travelling in a blue Audi A3 which crashed on Knott Road, north of Rosedale Abbey.

Two people who were in the Audi with Mr Finn were arrested following the incident and released under investigation.

North Yorkshire Police has now renewed its appeal for information, and is asking anyone who may be able to assist in their enquiries to contact the Major Collision Investigation Team on 01609 643185.

A man has been summoned to court after officer’s recovered class A drugs following a search.

The alleged incident happened yesterday on Dalkeith Crescent in Hemlington.

The 45-year-old man was interviewed voluntarily after officers who were patrolling in the area searched him following alleged drugs activity.

Officers recovered class A drugs which were later found to be heroin.

A vehicle was also searched, however, no drugs were found in it.

The man was reported for summons for possession of class A drugs and he will appear at court at a later date.
