The number of Coronavirus cases in our area has again shown an increase in the last 24 hours.

According to the latest figures published yesterday by Public Health England, there are currently 34 confirmed cases in Redcar and Cleveland, out of a local population of just under 137,000 people.

That's up from 25 cases yesterday.

There are currently 33 cases confirmed in Middlesbrough, a figure which has also risen sharply over the weekend, up from 26 yesterday.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has closed its car parks at a number of countryside and woodland areas in response to the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.

To try and prevent people gathering at the borough's green spaces, and to encourage the following of the Government's social distancing advice, the council has now the car parks at Guisborough Forest and Walkway, Flatts Lane Country Park, Errington Woods, Foxrush Farm, and the council-owned car parks in Newton Under Roseberry and Cowbar.

The closures came into effect from 5pm yesterday, with barriers being put in place during the course of today.

Police are appealing for help from the public after three men broke into a home in Brotton and threatened a woman and baby who were in the house.

The incident happened at around 11:15pm on Saturday on Lilac Crescent.

No one was injured in the incident and the men made off in a silver or white vehicle, believed to be a new shape Vauxhall Astra. Officers believe that it made off in the direction of Skelton.

Two males, aged 24 and 26, have been arrested in connection with the incident and they remain in police custody at this time.

Anyone who may information or anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist the investigation is asked to contact Redcar and Cleveland CID on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
