The number of Coronavirus cases in our area has seen another rise since yesterday.
According to the latest figures published yesterday evening by Public Health England, there are currently 13 confirmed cases in Redcar and Cleveland, out of a local population of just under 137,000 people.
That's up from 10 cases on on Thursday.
There are currently 17 cases confirmed in Middlesbrough, a figure which has almost doubled in 24 hours, from 9 on Thursday.
New powers are being introduced to help police enforce protection during the coronavirus outbreak.
Under the powers given to police, no-one will be allowed to leave their home "without reasonable excuse" and officers can ensure that people stay at home, avoid non-essential travel, police will be able to order people to go home, leave an area or disperse.
This week officers have seen large numbers of people flock to beaches and beauty spots to walk their dogs and exercise, such as Redcar and Saltburn, and some of these people have even driven from out of the area to visit them, contravening government guidance and putting communities at risk.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are reminding small businesses to contact them regarding government grants to assist during the coronavirus outbreak.
The team managing the Small Business Rates Relief grants are asking that business owners contact them via email in order to access the grants.
