Emergency services were called to assist a man after he fell from the breakwater at South Gare.

At around quarter to eight on Saturday evening volunteers from Redcar RNLI took part in the difficult rescue of the man who had sustained multiple injuries after he fell onto rocks at the South Gare.

RNLI crew members trained in advanced casualty care techniques traveled by vehicle to the location to assist paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service, UK Coastguard rescue teams and the Hazardous Area Response Team with the rescue of the man, who had fallen face-down from a wall near the pilot’s station on the river side of the breakwater.

Once rescued to the road he was transferred into an ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment.

Earlier in the evening the RNLI crew had also been involved in the rescue of three people who had become cut off by the tide on rocks at Redcar.

They were safely brought to shore.
