SABIC has issued an apology for any inconvenience or disturbance caused by the flaring from the firm’s Wilton plants yesterday.

The firm initially advised its neighbours of potential low level flaring as a result of a shutdown of its Butadiene plant for planned repair work.

However, the firm’s Wilton operations then suffered an unrelated power failure from its electrical power supplier Sembcorp, which caused more substantial flaring from the Olefins 6 cracker and Low Density Polyethylene.

Flaring is a safety feature that ensures the plants are safely shut down when required.

The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were called into action yesterday to assist a seriously injured man.

At around 3.15 yesterday afternoon the team were called to the old quarry close to Captain Cooks Monument to assist a fallen paraglider.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service were on scene to evacuate the seriously injured male. Safe and steady extraction. The team wish the male our very best for his recovery. Whilst loading into the helicopter the male managed to keep his sense of humour saying “I hate flying”

The council's Adult Learning Service has been praised by Ofsted inspectors.

Inspectors rated the training, apprenticeship and learning service as 'Good' and said; "learners and apprentices receive a high quality education," and managers have; "a clear vision for the future."

Two new training and employment hubs in Grangetown and Skinningrove were singled out for special mention after improving employment skills in key areas of the borough.

The report and action plan was discussed at the council's Cabinet meeting at the Redcar Leisure and Community Heart on Tuesday.
