Positive discussions over the future of the former SSI Steelworks have taken place between the South Tees Development Corporation and three Thai banks who currently own the site.
The discussions were hosted at the British Embassy in Thailand, and an agreement in principle has now been reached subject to contract and board approval, to transfer the SSI UK assets and land to the South Tees Development Corporation.
The final agreement will need to be agreed by the Official Receiver and ultimately the boards of three Thai Banks.
Redcar MP Anna Turley has welcomed the news, saying that it sounds very positive and she congratulated everyone involved.
Subject to contract, the transaction will be completed later this year.
Cleveland Fire Brigade are asking people to take extra care and be vigilant during the half term break to avoid deliberate fires and lives being put at risk.
Parents should make sure they know where their children are and also remove any rubbish away from houses and other properties.
It comes after latest figures show a 36% increase in deliberate fires across Cleveland in the last two years. There were 345 fires in April and May 2016 compared to 468 from April to May 20 this year.

A report from the CARE Quality Commission has recognised significant improvements in the extended and out of hours GP Service which covers Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland.
The report was published on Wednesday, and follows an inspection of the South Tees Access Response in January 2018.
It rates the service as “Requires Improvement” overall and “Good” for providing caring services.
Inspectors noted significant improvements to quality of care compared to the service’s previous inspection in July 2017 and confirmed it was no longer under special measures.
The report is published on the CQC website at www.cqc.org.uk
