Two people have been arrested and caravans seized after travellers set up near to the seafront at Redcar.

The arrests came after a group of travellers pitched up at the R-Kade skate park on Majuba Road.

A man and the woman were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of handling stolen goods and two Ford Transit vans were seized - one for being driven by a suspected disqualified driver, and the other for using suspected red diesel and having no vehicle excise licence.

A busy road in our area has to be closed after a collision between a police car and an Audi on Ormesby Bank.

Witnesses said that the police vehicle was involved in the smash with another vehicle before going through a fence and into a telephone box.

Emergency services attended the scene of the crash which happened yesterday at about 5.15pm.

The black Audi which was involved in the collision was left in the middle of the road while the police car left the carriageway and hit the fence surrounding a grassed area.

It is not believed that anyone suffered any serious injuries in the incident.

The volunteers from the Redcar RNLI were called into action on Saturday afternoon.

The crews responded following reports of a jetski in difficulties just after 2pm on Saturday.

However the launch was cancelled a short time later after it was found to be a false alarm.

Marske United are celebrating after becoming Northern League Champions at the weekend.

The Seasider's match at Mount Pleasant against Newcastle Benfield on Saturday ended as a nil-nil draw, which means that Marske are crowned champions of the Ebac Northern League Division One.

Speaking after the match, Marske manager Carl Jarrett said that winning the title felt a lot better than a couple of years ago when Shildon lost it. This time we’ve won it in our own way in front of our home crowd. We’re the best team in the league and we proved that today.
