Emergency roadworks have had to be put in place on a bus East Cleveland road following a major gas leak.

Northern Gas Networks discovered the major gas escape on Loftus Bank, opposite Garbutt’s Recycling Yard.

Engineers began work to deal with the escape this afternoon and they estimate that it may take up to a week to repair.

In order to work safely on the carriageway Northern Gas Networks have had to install a set of two traffic signals, which is expected to cause delays at peak times.

Police are appealing for information after an attempted burglary occurred at a property in Grove Hill.

The incident occurred on Sunday 26th November at around 4pm, in a property near to the junction of Easson Street and Eden Road in Grove Hill, Middlesbrough.

Nothing was stolen during the attempted break-in.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact PC Paul Mushens on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A spate of recent cooking fires across Teesside is causing serious concern at Cleveland Fire Brigade which is urging householders to take extra care in the kitchen.

Firefighters have been called to five house fires in the last month – all of which involved a chip pan that had been left unattended on the cooker.

A sixth fire involved clothing which had been placed on top of a hob that was left on.

Now the brigade are appealing to all residents as a matter of urgency to take extra care in their kitchens.

They are urging people to keep an eye on their cooking especially at this time of year when people are traditionally spending more time in the kitchen and can be easily distracted by the festivities going on around them.
