Firefighters have rescued three people and two dogs who were trapped in a Saltburn cliff lift.

Passengers were left stranded after a carriage became stuck yesterday morning.

Rescuers wore harnesses to climb down to the lift.

One passenger was taken upwards to the top of the cliff to safety, while the others were taken down onto the sea front.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council have since said the breakdown was due to a faulty brake.

Arrangements for this year's Festival of Thrift at Kirkleatham Museum are now underway.

The theme for the fifth annual event focuses on growing and the power of nature.

Visitors can learn how to live sustainably by getting creative while saving money and saving the environment.

New highlights for 2017 include a mystery tour in a converted double decker bus, ideas for creating thrifty ceremonies and the chance to become a citizen of Cardboardia.

The event takes place on September 23 and 24 at Kirkleatham Museum.

Police are holding a property marking event in Saltburn tomorrow.

Residents can get a free etching to help keep anything from bicycles to mobile phones out of the hands of criminals.

The etchings not only reunite owners with their property, but also help provide evidence to convict the thief.

The event takes place on Saturday from ten o'clock til midday near the hut at Saltburn allotments.
