More than 1000 jobs could be coming to Redcar & Cleveland if a new power station gets the go ahead.

An industrial energy company is considering a new plant of the former Teesside Power Station.

And if it’s approved it could energise up to 1.5 million homes.

The project could create up to 80 permanent jobs, 150 in supply chain and up to 1000 over the three year construction.

A planning application has been submitted to Redcar and Cleveland Council but this could take up to 18 months.

The power plant is therefore still in its early stages but an environmental assessment is currently underway.

A new online map has been created to let residents know if flooding is a threat to their home.

The street map - made by the Environment Agency - covers homes across Redcar and Cleveland, Middlesbrough and Stockton.

It shows that properties near the Chapel Beck in Guisborough are at medium risk.

The coastal areas in Redcar and Cleveland are classed as 'high risk' except one part where the Stray and Esplanade meet which is very low risk.

The map also covers the chances of flooding due to rainfall, classifying Dormanstown and Redcar Racecourse as at risk.

The first evening jobs fair organised by the SSI Task Force is taking place today in Redcar.

It follows a training and advice session last month which attracted over 70 people.

It's open to anyone looking for work or seeking advice on training.

Employers will include Cleveland Fire Brigade, Hays Recruitment, Virgin Media, and even Middlesbrough Football Club.

Cleveland LGV who started their business using SSI Task Force funds are also attending.

More interested SSI employees can get help in starting their own business at the event which takes place today between 5 and 8 at Redcar and Cleveland Leisure & Community Heart.
