Police are appealing for witnesses and information after an HGV from a local company was involved in a collision on the A1.

At around ten past midday yesterday, a single vehicle collision happened on the A1 Northbound at junction 47, on the slip road towards the A59.

An HGV for David Fox Transport, which is based in Grangetown, overturned on its side and headed back down the bank towards the main carriageway.

The driver of the HGV, a man in his seventies, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance with serious, but not believed to be life threatening injuries.

The slip road was closed for several hours.

 

A Teesside college is aiming to help a group of female students make their mark in an industry typically dominated by men.

Three female students have taken their first steps into a career in the construction industry with Redcar & Cleveland College.

Sarah Roth, Nicola Ward and Alexandra Forma have all been impressing so far this year on their course, with Nicola and Alexandra also securing apprenticeships.

According to a survey by UCATT, the UK’s trade union for construction workers, women make up only 11 per cent of the construction workforce and just one per cent of workers on site.

However with current trends changing, women are expected to make up a quarter of the UK’s construction workforce by 2020.

 

The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland has praised Teesside's very own world champion in a reception held for darts player Glen Durrant.

The reception was held in Councillor Barry Hunt's parlour at the Redcar and Cleveland Leisure & Community Heart.

Councillor Barry Hunt congratulated the Coast and Country Housing Estate Manager on his triumph at the World Darts Championships last month.

Glen overcame a tricky second round at Lakeside before storming the quarter and semi-finals.

He then faced Dutchman Danny Noppert but overcame his nerves at won the match 7 to 3 to claim his first world championship.
